Millions of revellers mostly dressed in the traditional white color gather at Copacabana Beach for New Year's festivities. This is the occasion to welcome in the New Year, to make resolutions and to ask for blessings from Iemanja, the pagan Goddess of the Sea. Her traditional color is blue, so people sometimes dress in blue as well for the fesitvities. Some people launch a small (and sometimes large) boat with offerings to her, others bathe in the ocean and others jump over seven waves to bring in the new year. Whatever form the celebration takes, this is one of the largest parties in the world, besides carnaval.
