A 16.0 kg floodlight in a park is supported at the end of a horizontal beam of negligible mass that is hinged to a pole. A cable at an angle of θ = 33.0° with the beam helps to support the light.
(a) Find the tension in the cable.
(b) Find the horizontal force exerted on the beam by the pole.
(c) Find the vertical force exerted on the beam by the pole.
sin(33) ~= 0.545
Tension in cable = 16/sin(33) ~= 29.38 kg
Cos(33) ~= 0.839
Force on pole = 29.38 kg * cos(33) ~= 24.64 kg
Vertical force exerted on the beam by the pole is zero because it is hinged
