Can I use bleach on white vinyl fabric?

I bought a project boat with a very dirty cloth / vinyl bimini top. It will soak in the washer with cold water with detergent and bleach for cleaning work?

Only use a small amount of chlorine. I met a lady who filled a canvas umbrella in bleach and the fabric was literally falling apart. I would try a solution of borax laundry detergent or soap if you granulated dishwasher that goes a lot of hard to remove stains (phosphates in the soap work wonders plate). Soak in a large tub with water and soap and use stiff bristled brush on stains. Also outside and the sun can bleach any mildew stains and dirt.
