cast iron welding is a kind of playing golf. Because sometimes when things are going well and things that only you think you have found the secret. But the next Once you try, you're presented with a new set of circumstances that make you realize that you have not really found the secret. You were lucky.

The problem with cast iron is in a word ... Carbon ... and lots of it.

So what's up with coal? The Carbon steel is the secret ingredient allowing it to be heat treated to make things very difficult but useful exercises, razors, tools and ball bearings.

I mean just look at the bearings, which are harder than lip peak is hard! know what I mean ... And if you've already tried a ball bearing solder anything, you know, the weld can be very fragile.

I'll try to put this in perspective. carbon steel ball bearing steel usually contains somewhere in the neighborhood of 0.6 percent one percent of total carbon.

Now, let's cast. Most smelters contain at least 3 percent of total carbon, and sometimes up 4 per cent carbon. For welding, which is a lot. And that, even taking into account other issues such as oil and waste combustion exhaust are present in a field of cast iron welding jobs.

The cast contains carbon as While not everyone can be dissolved in the metal when it solidifies in the melt. What some cast iron is that excess carbon is present in the graphite flakes.

These flakes Graphite is good for things like engine blocks and components of the machine, and actually lubricate the wear surfaces such as cylinder walls.

However, all the carbon in the form of graphite is very difficult to weld. Any area in or around the welding temperature reaches about melting and cooled too fast will be hard and brittle.

So what is the best approach? What is the best welding process? And what is the best welding rod used for casting Welding?

I have had much success lately with a method of welding cast iron bit unconventional. Are you ready for this?

I TIG alternating current and brass solder aluminum. I know it's a bit out of rhythm, but here is my reasoning.

* The AC receives DCEN penetration less and really do not want to wake up all the waste that is cast, you want to merge.

* The Audit Committee also allows the bronze aluminum tempered more with less amperage.

* Upper aluminum bronze is stronger that silicon bronze, and even brass.

* The contraction stress of aluminum bronze are much smaller than the rods of nickel and help prevent cracks in adjacent areas.

No matter what method is used for welding cast iron, a good warm to hot 500-600F goes a long way and is so clean and shiny polished metal in the welding area.

stretching and rotation?

The drawing shows an arm of a centrifuge. The arm is a solid aluminum cylinder with a length of 0.14 m section of an area 1.3 times 10-4m2. At the end of the arm of aluminum is a specimen of 0.57 kg. How aluminum rod section, when centrifuge has an angular velocity of 180 rad / s? http://www.webassign.net/CJ/10_16.gif

Go to: And the Young's modulus for aluminum, H is the resistance Tensile aluminum, L is the length of the rod, and be extension, a cross-section, m the mass media, w the angular velocity of the centrifuge. MLW ^ F = 2 Y = (FL) / (eA) Y = ^ w ^ 2 ml 2 / (eA) = e ^ w ^ 2 ml 2 / (YA) = 0.57 * 0.14 * 180 ^ 2 ^ 2 / [69 * 10 ^ 9 * 1.3 * 10 ^ (- 4)] = 4.4 * 10 ^ (- 5) m.
