Minnows. Everybody fishes a live-minnow with a split-shot when bait fishing for Largemouth Bass.
Use larger shiners so large bluegills, & crappie won’t take it instead of bass.
Baby snakes
live minnows. Usu a smaller hook and run it through the tail to keep it alive and so it can still swim. About 18 inches up the line put a small sinker or bobber for weight to cast (bobber works better-won’t tire out the minnow). Toss that baby near a sunken log or bushy area and taste the music. I have the best luck this way.
Note: Bass prefer to stay somewhat near shore. If it is a big lake don’t go so far out.
Aritifical lures, (worms minnows topwater plugs).
Depends on what time of the year it is, in the spring I like craw worms, and on into summer I like purple worms. You need to experiment around to see what bait works best for you. My friend used to tell me any bait is good,,, it’s the presentation of it that works,,,he proved that !!!!
The best live baits are small trout, shad, and shiners.
minnows/crayfish
The best bait would be crawfish. Bream and other sunfish will leave the crawfish alone. You can use shiners, but white perch, bream and other sun fish wont let it alone in late spring and summer.
small bream or sunfish…which ever is native to the lake you are fishing…get you a cane pole and some worms or crickets and catch a bunch of them…the when you fish with them, hook them right in front of their dorsal fin and let them swim free…Bass love bream…and in many lakes that, besides crawfish or shad, are their main forage…
